UTAH HAS BEEN THE FASTEST GROWING STATE IN THE LAST DECADE.
The housing supply has struggled to keep up with the demand that growth has ushered in. Housing prices have soared, and wages have not kept up. More and more households have become cost-burdened; in other words, they pay more than the recommended percentage (30%) of their household income on housing costs like rent and utilities.
Recognizing the growing housing crisis, in 2019 the Utah Legislature passed Senate Bill 34. This required counties and municipalities to plan for housing affordability. Weber County took a close look at housing issues and opportunities in their 2012 Housing Assessment and Plan; per the desire of Weber County, this planning initiative builds on and updates that earlier work. Then, during this process, the Utah Legislature passed House Bill 462, which presents modifications to Senate Bill 34 and expands upon planning for housing affordability. |
